Jason and I spent two days before I started my new job by making a weekend trip to Austin, Texas. We saw a lot of great things but there was so much more we could have done. Unfortunately, weather and time were not on our side.
Our first real day was spent doing several things: The State Capital Building followed by the Texas History Museum, followed by waiting for stupid bats that never showed up, followed by the best freaking brisket I've ever had at Coopers before piling into bed.

Top: Texas State Capital Building in Austin, Texas Bottom left: This is at the history museum, but it's a giant star Bottom Middle: Freud would love us, we found this phallic floor amusing Bottom Right: Legislators weren't in session but this is what they do. |
Top Left: Self explanatory Top Right: Old school Tarot Middle Left: More old school Tarot Bottom Left: Texas flag Bottom Right: Really cool gas mask from the 1940's |
Are you really a Texas history museum if you don't have a display about saddles and cowboy's and rodeos? |
History about one of the first ships to settle land on Texas soil/ Well, what's left of it anyway. |
On day two, we took a little mosey on over to The Blue Cat Cafe, played with some kitties, had breakfast with some friends of Jason's and then drove home. We intended to stop by a few attractions on the way out, but weather prevented us from doing them as they were outdoors.
Cool murals on the outside of the Blue Cat Cafe. It's a cat rescue where you literally eat and drink with kitties. All of them are adoptable (Jason had no clue) and all proceeds go to helping them have a temp home, be fed and cared for. |
The right middle picture and bottom right are of the same cat, who we cheered on like a frat boy to make the big leap from one table to the other. He was very interested in the stuff I got from the metaphysical shop. Other than that, the cats just chilled, slept, kind of played or watched over us. |
Top: We waited for an hour for the bats to come out, they didn't show. Bottom Left: Visited several stores, one of which was amazing called Uncommon Objects. Bottom Right: The first breakfast, of course a waffle shaped like Texas. |
There were tons of other things we wanted to do but didn't get to. There was no time to visit Hippie Hollow or on our way back we wanted to stop at a horror museum outside Waco or visit the Caverns, but rain prevented us from doing these things. Maybe next time.
What's your favorite thing to do in Austin?
